The Design and Technology department at St Edward's School, Oxford, is on a scale unusual even among other independent schools, as are the projects undertaken by the pupils.

Simon Arnold, Design and Technology Teacher, explained: "A good education goes way beyond teaching for exams. We try to ensure that pupils can really stretch themselves in their Design and Technology project work. That means projects at St Edward's are often on a large scale." The pupils agree: "You can do pretty much whatever you want for your project," said Tom Leach, about to start his final GCSE year. "Whatever equipment you need, it's likely to be here."
