Alexander Norcross-Robinson's workshop, deep in the bowels of Norwich Castle, is a busy place. "We design, build and hang all of the Castle's exhibition materials," he said, "as well as providing a similar service for twelve other museums across Norfolk."
His choice of equipment needs to be spot on. "We work within tight budgetary limits, as museums do across the country," he noted. "Despite that, our machines need to be able to cope with heavy workloads over long periods, without sacrificing reliability or accuracy."
During 2002, with demands on the service growing, it became apparent that the workshop's existing table saw would not be able to cope with expected workloads. A vertical panel saw was the ideal solution, but a number of issues complicated the situation.
