It was at the website of UK tool manufacturer Sagetech (www.sagetech.co.uk) that Daren found the solution. He explained: "Sagetech had done a proper design job on their KoolKut vertical panel saws. They'd gone back to the drawing board and designed a saw that matches – and beats – tools priced at the £10,000 mark in terms of strength, rigidity and precision, at a price well under half that."

Daren ordered a KoolKut KK12 in September 2004. It sits neatly against the wall of his workshop, under the dust extraction trunking.

The KoolKut range extends from the KK12, catering for sheets of up to 2.5m by 1.25m, to the KK21L, which takes sheets of up to 4.2m by 2.1m. "I would have gone for one of the larger models as the pricing is so competitive," said Daren, "but once I had measured up it had to be the KK12 as it was the only saw I had seen that would fit under the extraction trunking."
