There are two types of extractors.
High air volume extractors typically have a large cloth filter at the top and, below, a dust collection bag. They use a large, low speed fan to give high volume air movement with low levels of vacuum.
Any impedance to the air flow has a profound impact on the performance of this type of extractor. Every change of direction or diameter in the dust hose leads to a pressure drop.
Since wall saws use flexible dust hoses, this type of extractor typically performs poorly. Additionally, in the event of a blockage of the incoming dust hose, the pressure rises and if there is a spark, especially with fine dust, this can lead to an explosion.
Industrial vacuum type extractors typically have a motor/filter unit mounted on top of a metal drum. They units can achieve up to 80% of total vacuum, enabling them to overcome the losses from fine dust filters and small diameter flexible hoses. By the very nature of the way they work there is no risk of an explosion.
Koolkut saws require a vacuum extractor.
